Destroyed by Fire
An early morning two-alarm fire has completely destroyed a building on the city’s southside.
Firefighters responded to the fire on Simpson and Miles streets shortly after 3 a.m., and flames from the blaze were visible as far away as Hillcrest Park just before 7 a.m.
Fire crews on the scene worked to not only extinguish the fire of the building, but also had to focus on protecting neighbouring properties.
"We worked very hard at protecting other buildings around there," said Thunder Bay Fire and Rescue chief John Hay. "In particular one that was abutted to the building in question. We were able to save that one, there was very little damage to that building."
Hay said the fire was discovered when firefighters responded to a different call in the same area.
No one was injured and the cause of the fire is expected later
