Biography

Greg Balec was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Balec was the guitarist and songwriter in Thunder Bay based pop/rock/metal band No Exit.

Band formed in TBAY in 1986, played local clubs, regional show dates, and recieved national radio attention with smash hit single Love's a 2-Way Street, which was recorded in Paisley Park Studios (owned by rocker Prince) in the Minneapolis, Minnesota area.

No Exit relocated to Toronto, Canada in early 1992 to pursue a record deal with BMG Music Canada, changed their name to Damm Wikkid in 1992 ,and showcased for other major labels. Balec and Damm Wikkid parted ways sometime in 1993.

Other notable songs include the campus radio hit "Three Smarties", Skid Row styled "City Of Angels", and "Lick Your Wounds" and "Day Late/Dollar Short".

Balec went on to pursue career as a Country music songwriter and has had songs recorded by several US and Canadian recording artists, seeing airplay in over 20 countries worldwide. He has won awards from Billboard Magazine and finished 4th in the Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame song contest.

Balec then went on to work as a promotions executive at the Warner Music Canada record label until such time as the AOL Time Warner merger cost him his job in 2002.

Balec is once again based in his hometown of Thunder Bay and is currently the General Manager of the Thunder Bay Border Cats baseball team of the US based summer collegiate Northwoods League. The Border Cats have enjoyed two consecutive trips to the league championship under Balec's guidance, winning the title in 2005 and losing in the championship in 2006.

Balec owns and operates Gregbalecpromotions, guiding the career of US based / Canadian Country star Dean Tuftin. Balec has helped Tuftin get a record deal with Sextant Records/EMI Music Canada and has helped him attained 6 national chart topping Neilsen BDS Top 20 hit singles and two CMT Canada Top 20 chart hit videos. As well, Balec has been a judge for the CMT's National talent contest Project Discovery and Thunder Bay Idol. Many Canadian country stars use his services to get their music played on radio across Canada.

Sources like Chronicle Journal and Thunder Bay Source show a Greg Balec that abruptly left the Thunder Bay Bordercats baseball team in the summer of 2007. Media also recently reported he will soon surface as general manager with a professional baseball team in the USA, reportedly Missouri or North Carolina.
